Info: Four tracks of “prime, vintage Dilla”, making way for a haul of unreleased gear on ‘The Lost Scrolls’. ‘Vol.1’ was assembled by James Yancey’s long time friend and confidant Frank Nitt of Frank N Dank, and includes a rare example of yon Dilla ‘pon the mic in the golden era MPC vibes of ‘Dewitt To Do It’ (Dewitt being his middle name), and the ruddy ‘Smack A Bitch’ (an’t see his mom being keen on that one!), plus the pair’s dubbed and crispy link-up ‘The Throwaway’. As us, though, and we’ll tell ya the best bit’s a little nugget named ‘Ruff And Rugged’, working with smoked out boom bap beats and the kind of bassline we could chew on all night long.
